Auntie Deedee
I’m sure you have heard of Kaylie’s brilliant mind or how she was a loving daughter/sister/partner/friend but one thing you may not know is that she was a beloved aunt. It was a well known fact that Kaylie was not a “kid person”. She didn’t want to have them and didn’t really know what to do with them lol. To tell Kaylie that we were expecting we thought it would be funny to get her a T-shirt that said “Worlds okayest aunt” on it. Boy did we pick the wrong shirt! Kaylie turned out to be an exceptional aunt! I had told her early on that the only thing I wanted from her was to take a picture with her niece once a year. It makes me laugh now to think that that is what I thought their relationship would be. Kaylie ended up being the kind of hands on aunt that I could only dream about having for our children. She truly loved being an aunt. She would always be checking in on her niece, finding out her latest interests and trying to come up with the most unique and thoughtful gifts for birthdays and Christmas. Azlynn liked to FaceTime Auntie Deedee (as she called her) and tell her about her latest adventure or her newest boo-boo or show off her baby sisters. Watching Azlynn and Kaylie dancing around the house or playing with Kaylie’s toys from when she was a child are memories I will cherish forever. After Kaylie passed away, Azlynn would tell people how her Auntie Deedee was a hero and had helped other people live. That is how we will remember Kaylie and will continue to tell our youngest daughters all about their Auntie Deedee and how much she loved them.
